Reminder that your "good"/"reliable" librarians do not exist solely to pick up the slack for your toxic librarians. Your best employees contribute to the good of the team and deserve support-not extra work from your "problem" employees because you feel they can "handle it all".
The LIS profession is notorious for taking advantage of high performing librarians who go above and beyond. Too often the work of underperforming employees is placed on their shoulders. This sends the wrong message and leads to low morale, burnout, and low retention rates.
It's only natural to gravitate toward the librarians who get things done. The ones who give presentations and are good at managing projects, change & conflict BUT you have to do something about the ones who don't. That's really the most equitable gift you can give to your staff.
