oh the way i can infodump as to why fma:03 is the perfect story,,
which i will do now hold on-
first off, as many people may be confused as to why i think the older version of the anime is the more superior version, let me explain the big differences
FMA:03 came out before the manga had actually finished. and once the anime had caught up to the manga, it had to diverge from the path of the manga and start making the story from there.

and it did it in the best way it possibly could
now brotherhood tends to get famed more by fans by being the more "accurate" version of FMA, as it was made AFTER the manga was made, and in turn could stay completely accurate to it (which actually caused the story to suffer)
fma:03 has a really AMAZING beginning.

it starts out with edward and alphonse going to a deserted town that is unfamiliar with alchemy. when edward shows them alchemy, they compare his abilities to that of the priest, who apparently was able to do anything "with the
power of God"

Edward immediately gets suspicious, of course, and is able to deduct that the priest is actually using a philospher stone. as he does this, he meets up with Rose, who had lost her fiance and was serving under the priest with the hopes to revive her fiance
now this is where it gets interesting,,,

rose goes to the church to do her duties and is interupted by Edward. Edward loses his more childish demeanor here and explains the ingredients to transmute a human body. and there, edward reveals that its impossible
to bring a human back. there is no magic, theres science, and science is saying that theres no way.

rose refuses edward, claiming that there is still a way, and then the priest and his goons come in and try to k1ll edward and alphonse
when the attempt at alphonse fails and hes revealed to just be inanimate armour, rose realises that edward and alphonse had attempted to resurrect summon, only to lose their bodies

the priest eventually comes and basically reveals that his power is rlly just the stone to rose
but even as the truth has been revealed, rose still chooses the priest and turns her back on edward and alphonse

i find this super intriguing as it shows how rose, despite having the truth completely shown to her, still chose blind faith. it shows how desperate people
can be when theyre grieving.

the priest eventually shows rose to a room, saying that hes working on getting her fiance back to life. rose is, releived and speechless. her love is finally back... and then you see the feathers across the room. and then she sees
her fiance hidden behind a sheet. and then the priest explains that, transmuting a human back to life required some equal exchange. and even then, it was faulty. so he used birds. and then she gets locked in the room, with her dead fiance who has been combined with dead birds
the fiance becomes animate and attacks rose- but before it can do anything, rose gets saved by alphonse.

alphonse, rose, and edward all meet up. and she grieves.

her only direction was the priest, the blind faith. and now thats gone. and she doesnt know what to do
and edward says that he cant decide anything for her. its up to her to choose her fate

and then they leave.

fucking. masterpiece. and its only EPISODE ONE.
and uhh to give a summary of brotherhoods episode 1: they immediately introduce all the military doods n edward and alphonse in a chase scene that makes little to no sense and builds up barely any character besides

"edward is the older one and rash and alphonse is the
smart and caring one who has some doubts" which is goddamn random

it doesnt build up the world and it immediately jumps into drama and heartache and characters archs before anything can be properly built up

and it just throws really random, HIGH ENERGY comedy scenes
in which 2003 does way better in having natural comedy scenes and balancing comedy and seriousness

case in point: that scene with the fake elric brothers and how edward is bothered that the fake version of him is taller, so he tries to slap him
only for the fake!edward to stop him

and rhen the increasing frustration as ed keeps trying to hit him only for him to get knocked to the side

its a small quick scene, but its natural and makes sense for edward to do
brotherhood is just spontaneous and doesnt build any of these kinds of scenes

its just serious then all of sudden, a character aays something and all the faces look like this

i love comedy animes but holy fuck tone down brotherhood-
im sorry what am i even talking abt anymore uh,,,

2003 FMA is best version. Lust and Wrath have my hearts, it did the dog-fusion scene way better, and the ending+beginning is superior in every way, including the comedy
the only fuckin props ill give brotherhood, is that they expanded on alphonse's character more than 2003 did

but even then, it lacks as 2003 gave alphonse his proper character development in the later season in REALLY CLEVER ways that make sense
for both characters and the little episodes like Alphonse wanting to protect n keep a kitten and later learning that sometimes its better to let go of things you love and letting the kitten go back out is small but amazing development for his character o kay
