/ This is a very important thread and voice. Prestige shouldn’t be defined exclusively as law firm gigs. But two addenda: (1) It’s also ok to go to a firm, if that is what you want to do, including to overcome generational debt. https://twitter.com/hannnahmmarie/status/1338972205619814401
/ I’m reminded of this piece by @MooreWright05 on the subject: I’m reminded of this by @MooreWright05: https://www.theatlantic.com/letters/archive/2019/09/no-more-corporate-judges-readers-respond/598861/
/ A public interest career is a privilege that may not be available to everyone, making it all the more important that it be recognized as prestigious!
/ (2) There is also a law firm path where you stick to your values (and turn down work or clients inconsistent with those values), do a ton of pro bono work, & pressure your firm to be more humane, more diverse, & more consistent with progressive values.
/ And btw, a ton of public interest litigation is done jointly by firms & non-profits in partnership. The resources firms can bring are many times critical. And those partnerships shouldn’t be overlooked. If you find yourself at a firm, push for more of them! /fin
