If y'all are going out, please leave your tech at home, keep your face covered, and be with people you trust. They are disappearing and killing people out here.
If you don't have a safety plan, here are my tips, condensed:
1. Make a plan: write the local national lawyers guild hotline number on your arm in sharpie, and make sure a friend or family member not in attendance knows where you are and when you expect to come home
2. Keep it simple: wear comfortable shoes for walking long distances, dress in all black, nondescript clothing to avoid being tracked, and remove all traces of makeup & oils – tear gas clings to these. bring extra clothes in a knapsack to change into
3. Use protective gear: wear goggles and a mask to protect yourself from chemical weapons & COVID-19 exposure, surveillance, and other identification; and leave the contact lenses at home
4. Watch your back: remain vigilant, and don't turn your back on the cops. they are using rubber bullets, batons, and other weapons to harm protestors
5. Walk, don't run: walk at a brisk pace to avoid stepping on fallen comrades, and to limit inhalation of gas & smoke
6. Don't get kettled: avoid being tapped in or confined by cops. kettles are used to arrest & brutalize protesters
7. Circumvent surveillance: refrain from taking photos & videos of protesters – especially those who are unmasked. if you post content, remove metadata or post screenshots. leave your smart watch and phone at home and opt for a burner – stingrays can track your tech
