Per @Marketplace, it will take until 2024 for some poor countries to get the vaccine. In other words, 4 years from now thousands will still be dying from what, in the West, will be a preventable disease.1/
What's more, the longer the coronavirus circulates, the greater the odds a form will mutate that is resistant to the current vaccines, potentially plunging us back into 2020-style lockdowns.
Big pharma will fight to protect their intellectual properties, and there's an argument to be made for this, but if so, then it's incumbent on the West both as a moral matter, public health matter, and global security matter, to fund the distribution of the vaccine, globally.
This should be (yet another) top priority for the incoming Biden Administration.
