Ok I get this tweets point but isn't class about how you GREW UP, not where you're at now? If a millennial barista is on minimum wage but their parents are lawyers, they're definitely less wc than the electrician if they grew up on UC on a council estate with unemployed parents?? https://twitter.com/wank_666/status/1338440416350400514
Am I wrong? I earn a good salary as a marketing manager and journalist but I'm not not working class? I grew up in a council house with a teenage single mother and we were on benefits. I'm not suddenly middle class because I managed to acquire a comfy role despite all blockers?
I've had no help in the career game. I know plenty of people earning less than me with a lot more financial privilege via trust funds and monetary support from family members. They're definitely middle/upper class despite working in customer facing roles.
A lot of people take those roles knowing they don't need to go for positions any higher paid because they have everything to fall back on. Which is a whole other conversation to be had. Rich people need to NOT take those jobs away from those who actually need them.
I'm rambling at literally no one but the og tweet has irked me. I get their point but reaaaaaally depends on the background of the electrician and the batista. Also I don't know a single electrician who earns 50 bloody k unless they've been doing it 20 years. 30k is more likely.
