1/ I think it's important to clarify that when we say mRNA vaccines are "new" technology we're comparing it to vaccine techniques that were developed 50+ years ago. But mRNA vaccines have been in development since the 1990s!...
2/...COVID-19 vaccines may be the first with FDA authorization, but human studies of mRNA vaccines for Zika, Ebola and other viruses have been going on for years. This is not something that was just made up for COVID-19. ...
3/ ...and while it's great to highlight the fact that we have a "new" vaccine technology because it's super exciting, I'm wondering how much of this messaging (which I have definitely been part of) is contributing to public unease re: the COVID-19 vaccines. Fin.
