note that this thread is in part directed at the fandom as well as the smp members and is made in an attempt to educate, not cancel anybody.
i’d also like to note i don’t know what members of this fandom or smp have been through and i’m not going to assume, these are just notes i’ve made about things i’ve seen both on the server itself and within the twitter fandom.
firstly, i think the topics such as suicide and manipulation are being handled far too lightly at points, i appreciate the effort they’re making but i think it’s important to understand that suicide is not just an event to further a plot and suicidal ideation is something -
multiple people (including myself) have gone through.
jokes such as tommy’s “jump in the cadillac” jokes can pass suicide off as a joke and are insensitive, especially when no warnings have been put in place about how they’re going to be speaking of suicide

it’s not possible to put a warning on everything in the smp since most lines (especially one-liners) aren’t scripted and sometimes plot just happens without actually being planned but i’m sure dream and tommy know some general topics they could put -
warnings on since suicide, gaslighting, manipulation, and guilt tripping have all been common topics on recent plot streams. life won’t have trigger warnings but as @wilburhugs (who also made a really good thread about this which i recommend reading) noted even most -
movies implement trigger warnings and demographics their content is directed at. dreamsmp is basically just that, one big improv show/movie. multiple of my friends have talked about how they’ve gotten triggered by previous content and i can’t help but think -
about how harmful this arc could be for younger kids watching tommy and dream, twitch has a 13+ guideline and tommy and dream obviously can’t control who watches their content but tommy uploads most of his content from the smp to youtube and there’s probably been -
children who have gotten into the arc and see how their favorite creators make suicide seem light hearted and basically up until the point tommy decided against it suicide seemed almost like it was made out to be the only option which is far from true
I know tommy’s suicide arc is most likely over and he decided against it at the end but I still feel like tommy should note how suicide is something multiple people go through and you can reach out for help.
I love dream and tommy but i still think there’s ways they could’ve handled some of the events of the smp better.

i’ve seen multiple people talk about how they stopped watching the stream or were disappointed due to tommy deciding against suicide and that’s insensitive as hell.
you’re painting it as if harming yourself is somehow more interesting than continuing to live and painting self harm and suicide as something artistic is already a huge problem in media and on the internet
i’ve also seen people tweeting about the events of the smp in detail without warning and telling tommy to “do a flip” which is, as i said before, really fucking insensitive. suicide isn’t funny and it’s weird as hell that any of you saw it as funny in the first place.
tagging dream or tommy and reading this could really help a lot and i know i’m not too articulate at the moment because i don’t feel well and i’m writing this angry but i hope it at least somewhat helps to describe my feelings on the situation
