This will absolutely be used for evil. But the important thing to understand is that it will most likely be the incredibly banal kind. The kind where people give themselves the data they need to discriminate more effectively. But it's treated as a "normal" way of doing business. https://twitter.com/WolfieChristl/status/1338620503511207939
This may not be what folks wanna hear from me. But I can't get stuck on rhetoric like "this shouldn't exist". I think that ship has sailed. Any and all kinds of valuable datasets will get collected. I think the way to fight this is with employment rights and privacy regulation.
The word you need to examine is "allow". What we keep learning over and over is that our Western capitalist society is not actually capable of preventing harm. Only punishing it and hoping that serves as deterrent. https://twitter.com/bitmaker_me/status/1338976514092617730?s=20
Name some of other things that shouldn't be "allowed". Spend some time finding out why they continue to happen anyway.
Again, I'm acknowledging that this is a cynical take. Other folks should feel free to work on making these things illegal. Good luck and godspeed.

I believe it's more than possible to change our societal culture and institutions in a way that would make me less cynical about it. And indeed we should. But in the meantime, we should probably create more protections for workers, because it's gonna get bad.
