Medical #innovation is difficult and risky. Scientists usually examine & test thousands of potential molecules to find even 1 viable candidate. The #US has spent decades fostering an ecosystem that rewards this type of risk taking, the likes of which is the envy of the world 2/3
There have long been attempts to weaken IP protections for #biotech innovators, including those now that undermine the work to develop #COVID-19 #vaccines & therapies. If acted upon, the robust pipeline of 700+ compounds in development may grind to a halt 3/3
