We’ve sung “I” and “Me” on Sunday for so long that we’ve ended up worshiping ourselves. Our communion has been diminished to the points of consumerism, presentation, & preference instead of revelation, repentance, & belonging, not to mention gratitude & devotion.
The clanging and clutter of our society will take many forms. The dictatorship of noise is subversive in most regards. The rumbles and turbulence of noise can ripple throughout our politics, art, academia, and even reaches into our churches.
Stillness, silence, & meditation help us in seeking space to just be. Being is a fully aware & centered state where we acquire peace. It does not come easy & is anything but passive. A contemplative life is a life that pursues “rest in God,” as the Cloud of Unknowing mentions.
Silence is God’s first language; everything else is a bad translation. -Keating. #LearningToBE
