I think Erin's comment about the intentions of Ryerson are debatable, though. We can't really know. The man lived from 1802 to 1882. By today's standards it's clear these schools were horrific. Erin acknowledges that. Fair to say our collective understanding has changed. #CDNpoli

I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about historical figures. As a gay man, I can see that every government... even this one... has a very imperfect record on #LGBTQ rights. Do I cancel all of human history? How? Is it fair? I don't know. #CDNpoli

I think Liberal/NDP fans are choosing hypocrisy. They want to cancel Conservatives who had shitty views in the past. Weirdly, they are dead silent on their own people. Why? It's not actually about human rights. At all. It's about the politics of today. #CDNpoli

As for Ryerson, I totally respect wanting to change the name of the school. I support removing monuments to people and things that ought not be celebrated. If the decision makers remove his name, that's totally fine by me. No problem with that. #CDNpoli
