2) Representation matters. There are no openly LGBT members of the new cabinet so far (there are members of the WH comms team who are though), until Pete. There’s a lot of snark thrown at him but he made history being the first LGBT person to win a primary/caucus

Twitter isn’t real life. Pete is very popular in the wider Dem electorate. Like it or not he’s one of the faces of the younger gen of the party. Unlike some people he’s a great coalition builder & whipsmart at speaking to the Dem base & FoxNews nutjobs
