As my final week at Wheaton College Graduate School soars on, I’m working a sappy thread reflecting my time there. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting (Oregon trees are good for that) so here it goes...
I transferred to Wheaton from Asbury Theological Seminary because the latter wasn’t a good fit for me. An excellent school but I wasn’t growing academically like I wanted to. @marin_huver, @tokyotisoy, and @HollyLear convinced me to apply and I was accepted.
I accepted my enrollment because of @jpowellmcnutt, who called me from her home to tell me that the department would support me every step of the way. I visited Wheaton for the first time shortly after that, and knew I was home.
First classes were intimidating, I quickly realized I had a lot to learn and had new expectations to meet. Pneumatology/Eschatology with @bethfelkerjones allowed me to do theology as a Pentecostal, and @_MarcCortez’s Barth seminar kicked my proverbial butt. Lots of pipe breaks.
Somehow I passed the Barth seminar and managed to become the Graduate Fellow for the Center for Applied Christian Ethics. However, I was pretty alone, and basically school was my entire life. Here are some of the solitary adventures I had.
I’m running out of steam on this so basically the long story short is that I took some great classes, became a much better theologian and thinker, got to study with some awesome folks (too many to tag), and now I’m done. Wheaton challenges me not just academically but personally.
Here are a few Wheaton peeps that you should read and follow because they do theology for the life of the world:

@bethfelkerjones
@EmilyMcgowin
@_MarcCortez
@teedan
@jeffbarbeau
@vbacote
They all, in different ways, shaped who I am today. So, there it is
