THREAD: Judges in every majority-black multi-member trial court district in Mississippi sit in subdistricts drawn so white minority voters can elect a candidate of choice.

Judges in white districts are elected at-large, denying black minority voters the same opportunity. 1/
CIRCUIT COURTS: Mississippi's circuit court districts are set out in Title 9 Chapter 7 of the Mississippi code. https://casetext.com/statute/mississippi-code-1972/title-9-courts/chapter-7-circuit-courts/judges-districts-and-terms-of-court 2/
Circuit court districts with judges elected from gerrymandered, single-judge subdistricts appear in red, and districts with judges elected at large appear in white.

Single-judge districts appear in gray. 3/
I used data currently available for Mississippi's counties at http://census.gov  to calculate the racial makeup of each circuit court district.

Due to HB 1490 (2020), I itemized new District 23 separately from District 17. http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/2020/pdf/history/HB/HB1490.xml 4/
I discovered that judges in each majority-white circuit court district are elected at large whereas judges in each majority-black district (excluding single-judge districts) are elected from gerrymandered subdistricts. 5/
CHANCERY COURTS: Mississippi's chancery court districts are set out in Title 9 Chapter 5 of the Mississippi code. https://casetext.com/statute/mississippi-code-1972/title-9-courts/chapter-5-chancery-courts/chancellors-districts-and-terms 6/
Chancery court districts with judges elected from gerrymandered, single-judge subdistricts appear in red, and districts with judges elected at large appear in white.

Single-judge districts appear in gray. 7/
I used data currently available for Mississippi's counties at http://census.gov  to calculate the racial makeup of each chancery court district. 8/
District 3 contains two two-judge subdistricts rather than four one-judge subdistricts, so I itemized Subdistricts 3.1 and 3.2 separately and color-coded the counties as multi-member at-large districts. 9/
I discovered that judges in each chancery court district 53% or more white are elected at large whereas judges in each majority-black district are elected from gerrymandered subdistricts. 10/
