Ah good the scientists have arrived and are trying to stop Christmas. Look, if we took the absolute scientific angle on this, nobody would leave their houses EVER. Its been about treading a line. Surely they get this?
Treading the line is the governments job and not the scientists, and for once they have decided to tread the line in favour of people not all having a completely shit time for a couple of days.
Now, if you are in an at-risk group, then you can make your own decision. There cant possibly be a person left in the country who doesnt know the risks and cant be trusted to act accordingly, in relation to their particular situation.
Im not going to see my Dad, because hes at risk of dying of flu, never mind Covid. But why cant 3 young families meet up. We all know that the risks are low for those age groups.
This is dangerous stuff now, because people are operating to agendas outside the interests of the public. Kier Starmer is trying to further his position by gambling on an outcome that he can then criticise. Im quite sure Sturgeon has some devilish plan up her sleeve.
Im sick of it now. If you arent happy with the governments decision on this, which was taken sympathetically, then stay at home, lock yourself in the broom cupboard for all I care.
But wind your neck in and let people make their own decisions for once, just for 3 days FFS
I said it before and I will say it again for the purpose of this thread. In businesses such as construction, Health and Safety/Compliance operate as a separate business unit. They have the power to stop certain things but generally their role is to feed info into the management.
The management then make decisions for the good of the business. Its a balancing act. Its the same dynamic here. And to be fair, the scientists, I am sure, understand this dynamic. But the media, and the governments opposition, are pretending they don't.
For the media, what better headline than the threat of cancelling Christmas? For the likes of Starmer and Khan, there is simply too much political opportunity to resist here.
So what is the end result. A deeply disjointed approach to a national crisis, and a continued loss of engagement with the public. What will genuinely be achieved by this uncertainty so close to the event?
Answer, nothing. People will do what they wanted anyway. But the continued loss of consensus will harm the effort into next year. In my view, when this all finishes, there needs to be an enquiry into the conduct of the media and charges levelled.
