I am grateful that the vaccination part of this nightmare that has been COVID has begun. My fear is that we’re just going to watch climbing case numbers because “it’ll all be fine, we’ll all be vaccinated soon.” 1/4
Between now and the end of next year our healthcare system can still be overwhelmed. People can still die. Until most people are vaccinated and we start to see cases drop we need to continue to be vigilant and follow public health measures. 2/4
And we need to pay special attention to the weaknesses in our society that COVID has cast a spotlight on. Because if we don’t, disaster will strike again and again. Our resilience depends on how well we treat each other. You can’t vaccinate away social inequity. 3/4
I’m looking forward to the day I get to roll up my sleeve and get that jab. It represents what can happen when humans singlemindedly work toward the good of everyone. I hope that we learn something from all this. If not, then what the hell was it all for? 4/4
