Being Black in Canada is dangerous.

I have been pulled over 3 times because police think I stole my own car.

My brother was illegally detained and assaulted by police as proven in court.

& My sister has been stopped, harassed, and assaulted by police for no reason as well.
Incidents like these all have accute & wider spread traumatic impacts on individuals and communities.

The racist police involved incident @SFU involving @BurnabyRCMP
Exacerbates these impacts and traumatizes/ re-traumatizes people.

It's dangerous for Black Canadians to learn.
Its dangerous for Black Canadians to seek an education.

Black students face racism from their peers, their teachers, their administrators, their curricular content, their school security, and their school police officers, the list goes on.
Black students are subjected to violence from the above mentioned places, and yet given no support throughout their traumatic educational experience

When Black Canadians protest the state of their citizenship in Canada theyre shut down by people in power or shut down by police
Although some leaders in positions of power with extraordinary privlige might reduce protests within the #BLM movement to rhetoric, know that we are out here day in and day out fighting for our lives!

We are fighting for our lives because of systems created to opress us.
And you sure as heck wont ever find me apologizing for it.

Its time leaders across all Canadian institutions walk the walk, step up, listen, and protect Black and Indigenous lives.

Failure is not an option.

Now let's get it!
