Pleased to be watching the @theRSAorg event this evening #CreativityMatters
“Ken was a guiding influence on the @theRSAorg work” - @RSAMatthew introduces the event and highlights Ken’s connection to the RSA and his legacy.
“We way we [ @theRSAorg] try to get ideas out to the world was influenced by Ken”
“he empowered educators to be the change they wanted to see in the system... what if we did things differently ... how many more people would flourish and be better off for it”.
“he was sincere... never changed who he was... at the core of his work was a celebration of human potential... we create the worlds in which we live ... our power of imagination”.
“Creativity as applied imagination...”
Great to hear about the role @BathSpaUni has played - thanks to @PenAHay - in making Bath a city of creativity. #CreativityMatters
“What better place than Bath to establish itself as a City of Imagination” - lovely to hear the collective shared spirit to honour Sir Ken in the city. A drive to do better for young people in the City.
Lovely to hear from @MarcusDavey_ from @RoundhouseLDN - Marcus gave Sir Ken a tour of the 24 studios, where Ken chatted to young people in every studio. All followed by a feast at Belgium resulting in a plan hatched to formalise a relationship with Sir Ken and the Roundhouse.
Lovely to hear @Chisaraa performing as part of the event #CreativityMatters
And now ‘Grace’ - a poem by @OdubanjoGboyega
“we should seek out paths that are individual to ourselves” - look forward to seeing the film the @RoundhouseLDN will share next year. Thanks to @MarcusDavey_ and the Associate Artists from the Roundhouse. “imagine if we could have young creatives on every board...”
“what would happen if the government reframed its purpose of education?” - @CultureLearning represented in the @theRSAorg event this evening #CreativityMatters
“learning about the arts and creativity is essential... education is about living people” #CreativityMatters
Lovely to hear from @KennethTharp speaking in honour of Sir Ken #CreativityMatters
“our own personal time machine” - @ImaginationLdn sharing the value of human interaction for imagination #CreativityMatters - “what if we all talked more about imagination with our friends and family?”
Great to hear from @garethIbinns - highlighting the value of connecting with the least connected and under-resourced young people; our role to work with these young people so they can take the lead. #CreativityMatters
“imagine if we weren’t afraid of ourselves...” Margaret Heffernan shares how Sir Ken inspired her ideas and her thinking about what it is to be creative. #CreativityMatters - “we have never needed creativity more”.
“craft some kind of future that no one can quite see yet... we can’t start until we are certain ... but that’s absurd! If we had all the data ... that can only be because it’s already been done... not original at all” #CreativityMatters
“artists are among the bravest and toughest people are know... starting with uncertainty... what and how the work will be ... doing it is how you find out... creative people put their lives on the line every day when they start... they do it because they can’t not do it”.
“invention and discovery propels the work... it changes the person”.
“When we use our imagination we change...”. Very powerful and persuasive account from Margaret Heffernan of why arts, culture and creativity are so vital to education and why I love being able to lead on this at @ArtsOdysseyMAT #CreativityMatters
“we don’t have forever so we have to create now”. A wonderful message inspired by @Chisaraa song we heard earlier. #CreativityMatters
Thanks to @PenAHay for asking my question about the role of teachers - Sir Ken always said if you’re a teacher you’re a the system; education is a human system. A teacher has the power to be the change they want to see. Never been a more important time for Sir Ken’s message.
“we still have so much work to with ... educators and young people ... with everybody”. #CreativityMatters
Such a wonderful evening - and delivered with such aplomb by @PenAHay ! Thanks so much Penny and @theRSAorg #CreativityMatters
