The problems we witnessed today is something laughable. The problem is dire. Fowler, seeing that the three defenders holding tight in the last match, went for an attacking approach, putting more men forward. Rather than shifting to a 4-4-2, he went on with a 3-3-2-2.
@QEBNA
THe 3-3-2-2 is one of the most attacking formations in modern day football and requires players with great technical ability and stamina to fully cover the pitch. We simply don't have that type of players in the squad. In the previous match, Pilkington dropped deep to facilitate
passing lanes and space. He and Maghoma carried the ball through the midfield because we don't have the required tecnical ability to do that in our Indian crop. But in this match, Pilkington didn't drop deep that much, as Fowler wanted his more involved higher up the pitch
to create movements. Maghoma played in a box to box role along with Steinmann. But the blunder that Fowler committed is that he put pressure on them but putting them in such positions of extreme pressure. Steinmann is not a destroyer CDM, he is a deep-lying playmaker.
To put him in such a position(when Maghoma ventured in the final third due to the lack of movements but the Indian forwards..Steinmann was visibly uncomfortable in that position. Hyderabad crowded him and Maghoma in the central areas..effective in blocking out the passing lanes
Without Pilkington dropping deep as an extra option...they couldn't find anyone.Three options remained:-1.pass back and again go, 2.pass back for a long ball(which was attempted a lot) 3.try to dribble past. Whenever the tried the third option... they were dispossessed.
All the attacks of HFC that turned into genuine chances came from turnovers in midfield. So in the end, Fowler solved one problem to create another. He committed men back...goals dried up.... he committed men forward.... the team suffered in defence
I don't want to put the whole blame on Fowler or Shree or the players.. it's something that is wrong in its fundamental basis. Fowler simply don't have the required players to implement is philosophy, and he committed major blunders by not selecting the players with proper trials
Based on what I have seen so far.... the way forward for Fowler lies further back... to go back to a traditional back four with four midfielders spread wide across the pitch. Irshad and Anas(he in all possibility will be selected) in central defense, Neville back in right back
And Narayan in left(he would perform better in his original position), Shehnaj and Steinmann as the double pivot(we need a destroyer in Shehnaj and Steinmann as a deep lying playmaker) which would allow Steinmann to venture further up. Rafique is an undisputed starter in RM and
Pilkington in LM... with license to drift inwards to create chances in Central areas along with making runs for final third in his preferred left wing. Maghoma doesn't have the stamina required for a box to box role but his excellent positional sense(his first goal showed that)
And his ability to link the play should see him in a second striker role as his best option.He will thrive there. Along with him, We should have Aaron for now... Bright when he comes(playing them both in all matches would be the best option, especially Bright in the second half)
This setup would make a solid bank of two fours that would provide defensive stability, while in attack... Pilkington drifting inside would result in a lopsided 4-3-1-2
This seems to be the way forward(the safe way) until better Indian and foreign recruitments are done.
