Nah they're almost the same hand, people underestimate how merciful and unexpectedly generous the OT God is, and how strictly retributive the NT God. https://twitter.com/chaosprime/status/1316446617973727232
The analogue to God promising judgment on Israel and the nations in the OT isn't Jesus dying on the cross in the NT, it's Jesus prophesying judgment on Israel and the nations in the NT.
The analog to Christ's forgiveness in the NT isn't stoning people to death in the OT (there are plenty of reasons to think the law was intended more leniently anyways), it's God giving all kinds of breaks to people who turned to him (David stands out, after Bathsheba).
The analog to the Israelites being struck down for complaining isn't idk Peter being forgiven, it's Ananias and Sapphira being struck down for lying.
The book of Revelations is literally about your enemies and oppressors dying in the fire if they don't repent.
There are big differences! It's hard to find a tragedy in the old testament that does any better then be somewhat mitigated (David and Bathsheba, again). The NT comes with extra tragedy-reversing tech. But the popular dichotomy is basically fake.
