Prosecuting Trump and his cronies is just a start.

America is due for a deeper reckoning, one institution at a time.

Those who failed to see the crisis coming, who enabled it, who ignored it too long, should make room for those who guarded and kept us. https://the.ink/p/justice-after-trump
Should lawyers who made anti-democratic arguments on behalf of Trump be disbarred?

Should doctors who participated in medical crimes against migrants be stripped of their licenses?

Should Op-Ed columnists who minimized Covid see their columns go to voices like @sarahkendzior?
This moment of reckoning is also, I would add, a moment for promoting.

A lot of people called it early, said something early, warned you early, and were ridiculed as alarmists and whiners.

Now is the time to elevate those scholars and writers and union leaders and others.
Who in your newsroom was complaining about the headlines and tone of coverage in 2017, not 2020?

Put them in charge of something big.
Who at your nonprofit was saying all along to disregard the obligation to be apolitical and take a forceful stand?

Remember who these people were. Now is the time to give them a lift.
Who on TV was talking about the theft of votes years before everyone else was talking about the theft of votes? Give them that big-time pundit gig.
This isn't just those around Trump.

Many people up and down the ranks of American life, in various institutions, failed us and enabled this horror show. And many, many people similarly proved themselves heroes.

And by my crude calculation, most of those heroes need a promotion.
