this is a good question.

the next question is "what gives the FDA the right to tell people with cancer that they cannot give informed consent and undertake whatever therapies they deem prudent?"

this, of course, can be applied to all drugs. https://twitter.com/yinonw/status/1338892377612697602
i deal with the FDA a lot. they are slow, capricious, and insanely demanding.

they play the game as arch-conservative bureaucrats who do not care about cost/benefit but rather about never ever making a mistake that could harm their pensions.

but this itself IS a mistake.
anything they can do, a private agency could do better, faster, cheaper.

and free choice imposes a reasonableness standard on such agencies.

so you get more optimal outcomes.

if you want to take only drugs signed off on by such agencies, great. only take those.
but what gives the FDA the right to tell you that you or your doctor CANNOT use a therapy or take a drug without their permission?

how many have died waiting for approval?

how many drugs have never been developed because the cost is so high?
you're seeing how fast things can move if government squeezes the neck of the industry less tightly

imagine what could happen if they stopped squeezing it altogether

make the FDA into voluntary accreditation like ISO9000 and watch biotech explode in a renaissance of innovation
note that i am not talking my book here. this policy would almost certainly make it harder for me to make a living.

it's so profitable for me BECAUSE the system sucks.

the just and right policy is to end compulsory FDA approval.

we're being regulated to death.
healthcare is fundamentally a technology business.

let it act like one and watch how good and fast and cheap it becomes.

regulation and federal gatekeeping is the thing that impedes this.

all we have to do is stop.
