a thread of tips i have learned as a self taught artist
use a colored canvas base!!!! for digital it helps to sketch on a dull colored canvas to see colors and lines better, and w traditional mediums it's easier to build colors when you start with a base one
DONT FORCE YOURSELF TO FINISH THINGS. some artists preach about how you should finish pieces even if you dont like them. while this is helpful in some cases, if it feels like you're forcing yourself to do something you genuinely dont want to, dont pressure yourself into doing it
avoid "mixing" black with colors to shade. this makes things very boring and inaccurate. use different colors to shade!!! (i.e. try a plum or purpleish sort of color to shade red, or even a dull blue to shade pink- experiment with it!!!)
try cleaning up your sketch instead of doing lineart!!! sometimes this is more satisfying than it is to line your sketches and diminishes that "i ruined sketch" thing a lot of us go through
DRAW. WHAT. YOU. WANT. a lot of us who post art on social media try and draw things our following wants and not particularly what we want. it may not get a lot of traction, but take the time to draw things that you want to draw when you can
that's all i can think of for right now lol add more if you would like!!!!
