At least 10 employees at @AutoZone’s Hazle Township, Pa. facility contracted COVID-19 between July and September. It’s a story that illustrates why there must be #NoCorporateImmunity - in ANY form - in a federal COVID relief bill (1/6)
AutoZone admitted to OSHA in September that its policy was that “[t]he mask is not required when the AutoZoner [employee] is performing work duties and is able to maintain a six-foot social distance.” This was in clear violation of the Pa. Sec. of Health’s April order (2/6)
That @PennsylvaniaGov order had made it “a mandatory requirement [for employees] to wear masks while on the work site, except to the extent an employee is using break time to eat or drink...” (3/6)
AutoZone violated the order, people likely got sick as a result, and now our ally, the Community Justice Project, has asked OSHA to intervene: https://www.publicjustice.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Pages-from-2020.11.23-OSHA-letter-with-employer-response.pdf (4/6)
The latest @SenMajLeader proposal not only bans important worker/shopper/student lawsuits, it will also ban the incoming administration from letting OSHA investigate dangerous workplaces (5/6) https://twitter.com/jamieson/status/1338555018656493569
If businesses are granted immunity, it will incentivize the likes of AutoZone to continue to flagrantly violate worker health and safety protections. Let your Senators know how you feel about that right now at (202) 224-3121 (6/6)
