Yesterday Dr. Yaffe and Dr. Williams were having a conversation into a hot mic.

To be fair, as a former health and PHO, and Edmonton/EPCOR media comms staffer, this sort of conversation doesn't surprise me.

Presumably they've already been briefed so it's in their heads. Too much paper and files can be distracting and confusing when you're presenting.

BUT..
It does confirm what we already know: a chaotic confusing comms effort that has way too many fingers. They've got Cabinet Office/Premier's Office, Ministry, other reporting orgs and tables, and PHO, sending them a pile of material for the presser that is all over the place.
PHO simply does not have the comms resources they used to, and it's apparent they don't have much of a role. They would normally be LEADING the CMOH providing a clear comms direction w/ a precisely organized plan and brief/script.

When you have political meddling it goes to hell
Yaffe wouldn't be complaining about papers if it was well organized and clear.

That's not a political staffer's forte or expertise. So that tells there is lots of improper political meddling.
So that's the nuanced, kinda boring comms factors behind this in case anyone was interested.

However, it is upsetting to hear Williams refer to the numbers as if it's a game.
Again it tells you they have no strategy: Williams is basically saying, translated "I do the same stupid thing everyday telling people they're bad".

That's the gist of what he's saying: 'what's the point?' And he's correct: there is no pt to nagging ppl from the podium.
