THREAD: Met Charles Mains a few weeks back, while covering a #Covid spike in OKC hospitals.

The veteran nurse knew firsthand what his patients were fighting. He spent weeks in ICU earlier this year during his own Covid battle, before recovering and returning to work. 1/6
Today Charles sent me this picture of a letter he received at work about a week or so after our interview aired on @MSNBC. The return address came from up in Kent, Washington just south of Seattle. 2/6
No Christmas card here, but something better :)

When Charles shared the card with me, he said, “I wanted to let you know that there are still good hearted people in this unstable world.”

And then he shared what was written inside... 3/6
Dear Charles and David, (Dr. he works with), the note begins.

“I recently saw you on MSNBC and was so moved by what you showed about your daily work during this pandemic. I sat there going I hope these people know how much they are appreciated.

I’ll let you read the rest. 4/6
It’s towards the end, it gets awfully dusty in here.

“I speak for any of your patients who cannot speak. Thank you for your gentle hands and kind hearts.”

Signed...Peggy, a “grateful American from Washington State.”

God bless ya Peggy. 5/6
As for Peggy’s hope the pandemic ends soon, here’s Charles getting vaccinated this morning at his OKC hospital, six months after he thought Covid might leave his wife and 3 daughters without a dad.

“Doing my part to eradicate this virus,” he texted me.

👍🏼 to you too Sir. 6/6
One more :) Best. Sticker. Ever.
