The US government has failed in every basic metric of maintaining a basic level of security for people during a historic crisis. Everyone in a position of leadership in Washington is to blame, some more than others.
But who is to blame more is of no consequence to all the Americans who can't pay their rent, have lost their job due to pandemic shut downs, or are faced with a loss of healthcare coverage during a pandemic.
The bipartisan "problem solvers caucus" came up with an agreement that doesn't actually give people direct financial relief, and is replete with giveaways for corporate America at a time when Main St needs far more help than Wall St.
This is even too much for Mitch McConnell who for some reason thinks defending corporations against legal liability is more important than bailing out the American people.
The president's only concern at this point is to overturn an election that he legally and definitively lost. His organization and friends abused the PPP when it first came out, and there's no reason to think that his concerns have shifted in regards to aid.
Nancy Pelosi has successfully allowed herself to be negotiated down from the $2 trillion she was asking for to where she is accepting less than the Republicans were asking for in the first place.
We have a new president come January. He got elected with a mandate for change, and I hope he governs in that in mind.
Because if he doesn't, 2022 will be an absolute bloodbath and the Democrats will find themselves out of power again. On top of that, in 2024, a president who is even worse than Trump will be elected.
The status quo of cannot be enough, as the status quo has led to the mess we are in right now. There's a 9/11 amount of deaths happening every day, and mass unemployment, and we cannot get our act together enough to stop the bleeding for people with a $1,200 check.
Shame on everyone.
