MEITY has issued "Expression of Interest (EoI) dated 15.12.2020 for Setting up / Expansion of existing Semiconductor Wafer / Device Fabrication (FAB) facilities in India or acquisition of Semiconductor FABs outside India"

I have mixed feelings (1/4)
After rumours (and a draft copy in circulation for 8+ months) , and a clear statement from @rsprasad 5months back that a new fab policy is in the making, now this EoI document says "The information received in response of this EoI may be utilized to formulate a Scheme" !(2/4)
Thats strange in many ways ! If MEITY wants an EoI first to formulate a policy, then what was it doing all these 8 months or a year claiming to be working on one ? Why did it include FABs in SPECS and the new extended PLI notification? Or is this just a delay tactic ? (3/4)
Or is this a sincere "We (govt) just donno how to help trigger a fab, so anyone interested tell us, and we will look into your demands !" I am still hoping for the best, that there will be at least one EoI submitted & then sincerely hope that GoI doesnt sit on it forever ! (1/4)
