I’ve seen some confusion about the fifth year option and how it works. The option is initially picked up prior to the players fourth season. This is an administrative decision to protect teams rights to player, buy time to eval. (Cont)
The fifth year option is non-negotiable and is based on the transition tag for each position during that league year. Once exercised, teams have until start of league year for players fifth season to rescind. It is fully GTD for skill, cap and injury after start of new league yr.
So while Mike Williams option is GTD for injury, it is not yet fully guaranteed and the team can still rescind it without eating the money. They did this with DJ Fluker a few years ago. We’ll see how they handle Mike, but the appear to have already chosen Keenan over Mike.
