Let’s start on a positive note. I actually think this song is very overhated and has always been. I don’t love it but Em‘s lyricism is pretty nice and self-conscious and Beyoncé‘s hook is beautiful. The instrumental is a little boring but fits.

I also like how he draws a parallel between him and Sean. I don’t like his delivery in the third verse for the most part. There was no need at all to get hella aggressive here and start screaming.
Also, that outro that everyone loves? That ends with “Bitch, I wrote Stan“?

Now, this album gets hate for a reason. And that reason starts here. The production sucks and Em‘s flow on here is trash. That post-chorus makes my ears bleed. Who is Phresher and more importantly, who decided he would be great for this??

I saw this song getting a ton of praise from Em stans at the height of the BLM movement and honestly.. This song sucks.
Like for me it’s an okay concept but this is just essentially Em expressing his white guilt. There are just much better ways to speak on this.

I know Fantano said this in his review but he was right..The concept of being bad at one thing but good at the other isn’t really that hard to grasp.
