Watched those videos about Govanhill and a few things irked me, as someone who lived there for 18 years until 2015.

..it’s a culture rather than a nationality. That was the first warning sign. He’s potentially inciting violence against a nationality that the British media has demonised for years now and indeed much of Europe’s press. An easy target for abuse.
What he wanted to portray was a community gripped by fear and preyed upon by a ruthless, evil ethnic group. What I saw was evidence of abject poverty and hopelessness. In the Glasgow of the 60s and 70s you’d see the exact same scenes in predominantly white schemes
It’s been well documented ffs. Groups of young men hanging around street corners with no money and nothing to do, getting involved in petty crime? Yeah that’s never happened in Glasgow before.

No job, overcrowded living conditions, poor educational attainment: poverty. So the cycle continues with every generation.

A guy I know had links to the Roma community, said they often ARE aggressive but he put it down to constantly having to be on the defensive; they’ve been attacked and demonised wherever they’ve gone. Their reputation precedes them, as it did in Glasgow. You’d be belligerent too
As for the allegations of child prostitution; if you have evidence go to the police. Seriously, go to the police. There have been investigations into this very subject by the police that haven’t found anything but there’s always a chance new information would help
Wandering about with a phone, believing hearsay from shopkeepers and studiously ignoring clean closes while highlighting dirty ones is not investigative journalism, it’s sensationalist bollocks but hey, people love a good bit of misery.
Govanhill houses people from some of the poorest communities in Europe. The fact that many see living in a one bedroom flat with 7 other people as an improvement should tell you something. Jail the fucking landlords would be part of my solution but maybe not a long term one.
Most of society’s problems stem from poverty. Maybe concentrate your anger and your effort into addressing that and you might make a difference. You won’t get as many Facebook likes though.
