There are issues to be up in arms about in #Govanhill but Alex Cairnie’s claims aren’t one of them. Let’s follow the example of communal activism from @Living_Rent and not racist self proclaimed vigilantes. It’s slum landlords which are the problem of Govanhill not residents. https://twitter.com/catherinepemble/status/1338821326023307264
WATCH: Alex Cairnie’s racist rhetoric against working class residents of #Govanhill when the real culprits are slum landlords. He calls the Roma community in Govanhill uncivilised and unsuited for the area making up claims about the area being totally unsafe. @Living_Rent
Alex Cairnie deliberately targets vulnerable Roma people. He says “your young and fit why are you homeless” as if homelessness can’t affect young people. As someone who’s been homeless I can tell you it isn’t an issue for your entertainment - stop harassing people in Govanhill!
Alex Cairnie also openly admitted he used to be a bailiff/hired muscle for landlords in Govanhill.
Says about as much as people need to know. Tried to make a name for himself talking about mental health and failed so now he’s turned to something he sees as marketable.
WATCH: Alex Cairnies admits to working for landlords in Govanhill in the past. He is part of the problem not the solution: #Govanhill @Living_Rent
So to wrap this up, Alex Cairnies:
- doesn’t even live in Govanhill
- used to be muscle for dodgy landlords
- uses racist tropes and lives for fame
My suspicion and many others have raised this before is that Alex Cairnies is employed by property owners in the area to ‘clean it up’ to further the gentrification of Govanhill. This also links in with him admitting he used to work as muscle for dodgy landlords.
