"For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first" - 2 Th 2:3

"Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion." - Jude v11
Rebellion begins with identity politics.

For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human? - 1 Cor 3:4
Satan carved out an identity and a third of the angels followed.

"His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth" - Rv 12:4
Have you noticed how identity is such a big deal these days?

Everyone needs to identify as something... regardless how ludicrous.

Why?

It is the core spirit of rebellion.
Korah rejected God's rule in favor of a new identity.

Israel would no longer follow Moses.

Israel would be led by its people.

“You have gone too far! For all in the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them.” - Numbers 16:3
Korah's rebellion was based in identity politics.

Korah was a populist.

He redefined the terms

"Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD?"

Israel's new identity was "The Assembly of the Lord"
Just like Satan, Korah had turned the creation against their Creator.

It is an ancient folly.

Paul tells us we will see the Final Rebellion before Jesus returns.
The Final Rebellion will also be based in identity politics.

The Man of Sin will carve out an identity and fallen humanity will fall head over heels for it.
In order to get the created to turn against their Creator, you must first get them to adopt an identity that is separate and independent from the Creator.

Or to put it in simpler terms...

Divide and conquer.
What identity will seduce the nations to join arms in the Final Rebellion?

They said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves...” - Gn 11:4
What is the ultimate fate of those that join this rebellion?

"If the LORD creates something new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall know that these men have despised the LORD." - Nm 16:30
