On #CETA, head of the Greens group in @Europarl_EN, @ph_lamberts says it is a harmful trade agreement.

And calls for Green members to "remain free to vote any way they like on such treaties."

"CETA is not a good thing."
It is "one of these old fashioned treaties where the goal is to increase material lows and commercial exchanges across the planet" while we are faced with major damage to the planet.

"The ECJ rulings [on dispute resolution] don’t make the treaty better."
"What we want is binding environmental social standards."

He says UK-EU trade agreement is the future as it has a non-regression clause on standards.
"What we’re trying to negotiate at the moment with the UK might be the prototype of something new in terms of trade agreements"
Re Irish Green party says
"Politics is always about trade-offs. 'The Greens in Ireland are now part of the coalition and they are better placed to judge what leeway they have to vote.
"But that doesn’t change the principle opposition we have to that type of treaty."
