2am live tweet: woke up to see a smashed up car blocking residential street in front of my house. Went down to see if anyone was injured and all windows were blocked and folks cooking heroin in front seats. Called it into police at 1:34am. Let’s see what happens...
One white male got out and strolled block with flashlight. I wonder what he’s looking for?... 45 mins and no police response. Back to vehicle for more heroin. Classic Priority 3 ‘suspicious circumstances’ situation.
If police do arrive, my educated guess is they could find about a half dozen crimes here: DUI, hit and run, stolen vehicle, narcotics possession, and probably stolen mail/packages plus burglary or car prowl tools. Not to mention the warrants for missed court appearances on priors
Here’s the catch: if police don’t arrive because they’re stretched too thin on other priority 1 and 2 calls, then no crime gets reported, just my call for service (1 hour ago now).
See how that works? Fewer police officers means fewer crime reports but not less crime.
This thread got broken into two. Cops did show. Check my profile page to read how he walked away (meth and heroin in pocket). Here is the fire hydrant and the vehicle:

Basically this single incident tells the story of my data-driven report: calls for service going up significantly over 10 years but crime reports relatively flat. See below for link to report. Cc @genebalk https://twitter.com/splindsay/status/1336003619309506561
