I was on a thread ( I deleted my replies bc I don’t need them mass reporting) where a bunch of
Berners were defending the use of a Black athlete as a avi on a account run by 3
White ppl. Accounts that do that know exactly what they’re doing...trying to give the impression

It’s a Black man behind that account as they give cover to
Racists. The
Fauxgressives on this thread had BLM in their bios as they claimed Russia “just wants us to have healthcare.” Russia just investigated a Black Woman who was blogging about Anti racist movements &

Wanted to arrest her as a “extremist.” As they sat there defending digital Blackface they were defending a country that endorsed a Blackface impression of President Obama. Y’all know exactly what you’re trying to pull as you make Black athletes your avis. You want it to be
Ambiguous so if someone calls you out on it you can say they “should have known,” while trying to give the impression that it’s a Black person ( usually a Black Man) behind that account so you can give racists cover. It’s just like when ppl put that they’re a “Oregon Native.”
#NativeTwitter has asked
Ppl to stop doing this for awhile now. I’m not saying y’all can’t use Black celebrities, prominent ppl, or athletes as your avis.. I’m saying there are certain accounts that do it strategically and you can tell by their posts they’re low key trying to

Give the impression it’s a Black person behind the account. When y’all lurk in Black spaces and speak like you are part of our community, you know what you were trying to do when you made that account. It’s hard to explain what I mean but I saw it with George Floyd and
Especially with Atatiana Jefferson. Ppl used photos of Black Men and Women who were brutalized and killed as their Avis and began to speak like they were authorities on the Black community. A few of them called themselves speaking for us and would call other
Ppl out acting

Like they were not also part of the problem. Leaving out that key info. To me that was one of the most hurtful violations. There is nothing wrong w/ honoring Black Men & Women whose brutal murders made racial justice a national conversation but when you use their photos to be
Deliberately ambiguous so you can insert yourself into conversations you do not belong in... that’s wrong on so many different levels wrong. It’s straight up abusive, & it’s
violence. So before y’all flood my mentions With “ are you saying if I’m
I can’t have Kamala as my

Avi” read the thread again. That’s not what I’m saying at all. I’m saying y’all aren’t stupid & u know when you’re using our photos to honor us and when you’re using them as a ambiguous way to insert yourselves into our spaces, give cover to racists, and to speak for us only to
Gaslight us when you get caught like they’re doing on the thread that inspired this thread with “his avi is a cat He’s not really a cat.” You know the difference and so do we. Honor Black ppl.. yes; Using our photos to insert yourself where you don’t belong and to give racists
Cover.. No. Hope that helps explain it.
