40 years ago this very day (Monday then) my dad asked me to leave home before 7.30 am (On Mon 7.30 to 9.00 not auspicious time), for an exam at 10 am. 18 years old, young blood, non-traditionalist (then) defied but fell in line to obey 1/n
dad's advice. I lived at Ghatopar Mumbai and CA entrance exam centre was at HR college, Churchgate about 20+ kms away. Left home at 7.15, reached station around 7.35 and boarded the train to Churchgate via change at Dadar. Reached Dadar at 8.15 and boarded train to Churchgate 2/n
from Dadar west. Around parel the train got stuck and after ten minutes we came know there was a rail and road blockade due to water issues by residents of Parel area. It was already 8.40 am!. Jumped off the train and walked along the track hoping things would ease out. 3/n
But there was no respite and it had spread upto marine lines. Adrelinine was pumping in the system, first common entrance exam in life and tension of exam as well as reaching on time. Walked furiously along the tracks and 10.15 reached the exam centre. Luckily the staff 4/n
was very helpful, made few students who had to walk, sit offered some water and then we ran into the rooms to give the exam. It was a lesson in life to listen to wise counsel! God has been kind and Parents still around guiding me forty years later too! Every 15th Dec, i remember!
