THE STORY OF PANINI.

Everyone knows Panini but very few people know that he was a devout Shivbhakt. Pitrasharma and Vishnuyasha of Mathura had four sons well versed in Vedas. Their names were Rik, Yajush, Saam and Atharva. Panini was the son of Saam.

Although he was well versed in Vedas, once Panini was defeated in a discourse on Vedas by the followers of Rishi Kanaad. So he left for the forest to meditate and get access to more knowledge.

First he went to all the tirtha's and in the end started his meditation in the area of Kedar and started meditating to Shiva. First he would only eat dry leaves taking water only once in a week. Next ten days he drank only water. Next ten days he inhaled only air.

On twenty eighth day Shiva appeared before him and asked what did he want. After paying his respects properly to the Rudra, he replied that he wanted to know the base of Knowledge and the upper most echelon of Param Gyan.

So Shiva gave him the the all encompassing varna of 'अ' 'इ' 'उ' 'ण' source of Varnamala and told him that whoever washes the dirt of evil things in the pond of Satya or truth gets the fruit of immersing in Maanas tirth.

This mental knowledge is capable of enlightening you with true knowledge. And after saying this, the Rudra disappeared.

After returning home Panini gave the world an immortal legacy of grammar that we still read and study today.

Today also his explanation on Dhatu paath, Sutra Paath, and Ling Sutra Paath are studied by people aspiring knowledge. I have included in detailed in my upcoming book.
