This @NYCLU lawsuit asks for records from the @CityRochesterNY that I requested on June 23. I filed about 60 RPD-related requests and 58 have been fulfilled. My request for all the disciplinary records prompted the city to say it would create a database accessible to all. https://twitter.com/news_8/status/1338655024692531200
That database will contain disciplinary records for about 120 of the 710 RPD officers. It won’t include unfounded or unsubstantiated claims. City officials told me last week it will be available online by Jan. 1.
But it’s still incredibly frustrating, because the city will provide a date on when records might be returned (and often request extensions), but won’t say if parts of the request have denied until partial records have been returned.
So we’ll see in two weeks if the city makes good on its promise.
The repeal of 50-a has called for increased transparency. However in most cases, I’ve been met with efforts to obfuscate.
We haven’t filed any Article 78 complaints yet, but I’ve sent constructive denial appeals to at least a few local departments, including Greece, Irondequoit and MCSO.

I’ve had pending FOILs with each of those entities since late June.
Irondequoit has returned a fair share of records, but we’re still waiting for the majority of records.

Greece and Monroe County have been extremely non-communicative.

It’s frustrating. But we’ll persist.
And this doesn’t even take into account the nearly $5,000 bill we were presented with from two villages in Wyoming County. Each of these villages has departments with about 10 full-time officers. But said we couldn’t have their records unless we paid these massive bills.
We’ll have a bigger 50-a report card in the next few weeks.

And I’ll keep asking questions, because of the support we get from subscribers. Thank you.
