Bewildered that there's not yet a @hallmarkchannel Christmas movie that takes place on #MackinacIsland. Picturesque setting, old buildings, boats, white people, horses, the script practically writes itself.
(1/too many) 🎬 Heather is driving from Tennessee to visit her Great Aunt in the Upper Peninsula. Her car breaks down at the Mackinac Bridge toll booth. While waiting for repair, auntie tells her to visit the island where a friend owns a B&B and she can stay the night for free.
Snow begins to fall on her ferry trip. On the island Heather meets numerous intriguing locals. One of which is Ben who recently moved from Chicago to take over the fudge shop left to him following his father's sudden passing.
The other is Aaron, the strapping grandson of the B&B owners who grew up on the island. While his day job is general handyman repairing this and that around town, he serves more as the de facto mayor of the community.
After connecting at Ben's fudge shop, they share dinner and drinks at the pub but she cuts the evening short as her ferry leaves early in the morning. BUT a blizzard blows in overnight delaying the ferry for a day. Worse, the dog of the island's minister has gone missing.
Aaron invites her on what becomes a day-long search for the wayward golden retriever. A horse-driven sleigh ride, slip down an icy hill and break for hot coca ensue. They locate the dog just in time to make it back to town for the Christmas-eve tree lighting on Main Street.
She realizes the island, and Aaron, is what she's been looking for her entire life. But she how could she give up her career managing a regional chain of chicken restaurants? Until, that is, Ben approaches her on Christmas saying she helped him realize he belongs back in the city
and offers her the opportunity to take ownership of his fudge shop. Jump forward to summer - tourists pack the streets. Heather hands over a sample of fudge, turns her gaze out the window, smiling at Aaron who's hanging a new sign above the door featuring her name. Dog barks.
