They’re doing the audit study thing which...please for the love of god stop beating that dead horse. But okay. Fine. They don’t at all talk about racism as the object of study.
In fact, they write “Moreover, Black Americans already face persistent hiring discrimination due to their race + our findings suggest that if they post about their legitimate experiences with racial bias this may exacerbate racial disparities in hiring.”
1. Black people do not experience discrimination because of their race. But y’all don’t care about that distinction because y’all don’t actually care about racism, which is actually the problem.
2. Black folks posting about racial bias doesn’t exacerbate inequality. White people’s racism and discriminatory behavior exacerbates inequalities. These things matter and it pisses me off to see a paper that doesn’t even care to make this point.
Paper cites no CRT, no Black folks who do digital studies & critical race. It’s just mTurk and vibes.
Even the title is trash because it suggests that the posts themselves are the problem. I’m tired of y’all. Stop this.
