The ultimate guide to increasing your conversion rate by optimising the use of your call to action buttons 🧖🏻‍♀️

(THREAD)
TEXT🧖🏻‍♀️

Using imperative verbs like “get mine” & “grab mine” gives the customer a sense of ownership

It means they can visualise themselves as the owner, making them more likely to convert as they imagine how life would be better with X product solving the problem in their life
However, sometimes simple and more subtle CTAs like “Add to Cart” & “Buy it Now” convert better for a more matured audience, typically for more high ticket items

Be clear & concise with the purpose of the CTA - what do you want to the buyer to do & what will happen if they click
USE THE FIRST PERSON🧖🏻‍♀️

Studies have shown that changing the CTA text from in the second person (“get your free template”) to in the first person (“get my free template”) resulted in a 90% increase in clicks

Make it personalised and about the buyer - “Get my Free Book”
PROVOKE ENTHUSIASM🧖🏻‍♀️

You want to be able to elicit a strong response from your audience as a result of their enthusiasm

E.g “Buy Now and Get 50% off!” – you’re giving them a massive benefit, and also who wouldn’t be thrilled to get their order for half off?

Use “!” At the end
SHORT & SWEET🧖🏻‍♀️

Don’t overcomplicate your CTA burton The button should be kept brief, preferably 3 syllables and/ or 3 words

“GRAB MINE NOW” , “Tell me more” , “Get my Pillow”

Customer sees it, customer clicks it.
COLOUR🧖🏻‍♀️

Your CTA button NEEDS to contrast the colours used your store. White background? Use red/green/orange. Red background? Don’t use red

Your CTA needs to standout. Studies have shown that having a Call to Action button which stands out can more than triple your CVR
KEEP IT ABOVE THE FOLD🧖🏻‍♀️

Impulse buyers may have seen your ad & have already made their mind up about purchasing

Don’t talk them out of purchasing

Don’t use loads of pop ups blocking the CTA or have anything in the way. Have it visible straight off the bat

Keep it accessible
STICKY CTA BUTTONS🧖🏻‍♀️

This is for the more cautious buyers. They’re going to scroll all the way down your product page to find out as much as they can about your product

They get to the bottom, and they’ve made their mind up

They want to buy,

But there’s no CTA in sight...
They have to scroll all the way back up the page to find the CTA.

This is 2020, people’s attention span is atrocious. That 3 second scroll back up to the CTA may cause them to change their mind.

Don’t let them change their mind.

Use a sticky CTA which is visible at all times.
SKIP CART 🧖🏻‍♀️

Having the customer click on your CTA, even “Add to Cart” and it sending them straight to the checkout, can help increase your CVR

This has personally massively helped increase my CVR as it eliminates an extra step where the customer can change their mind.
USE INCENTIVES 🧖🏻‍♀️

Give the consumer a reason to take the desired action on the CTA

Make them feel like they are missing out by not taking up your offer & that they would be a fool to miss out

Use scarcity & urgency tactics to optimise this
BE CREATIVE 🧖🏻‍♀️

Sometimes the best way to encourage the visitor and to turn them into a customer is by being creative

Pique their interest with curiousity

For example, this CTA makes the consumer think “Why shouldn’t I?”

& will likely make them proceed to click the CTA
LEAD CAPTURES 🧖🏻‍♀️

More for running high ticket services / a subscription based product

Intrigue them with a great offer, then say the only way they can access the offer, is by entering their email

Their email address is golden (email marketing, Retargeting, abandoned checkout)
TEST, TEST, TEST

Don’t guess what CTA you think will work based on what you think your ideal consumer looks & thinks like

Test different colours , text, sizes, shapes of your CTA

Fine margins, but fine margins on your store will compound into big gains in the long run
