Thunder offseason review thread:

You can consider this offseason an extension of their 2019 one where they sold high on George, Westbrook and Grant.

They held onto everyone else and sold high on them this offseason after a very successful regular season and playoff berth.
They went all-in and as aggressive a team can be in a rebuild.

They started off by trading Schroder for the #28 pick, which they then parlayed with the #25 pick they got for Jerami Grant, for Aleksej Pokusevski. I like that they traded up for this year’s unicorn.
They got more for Chris Paul than I thought they would. Most likely the Suns pick will convey in 2022, giving them three first-rounders for that draft.

I was surprised they liquidated Oubre so quickly, but I suppose they’re content with what will likely become two seconds.
They also got more for Steven Adams than I expected. The Nuggets 2023 first will likely be late but they now have three firsts in that draft too.

Everyone else they received is mainly salary filler, but I like that they have Hill being a good sport about the situation.
Through aggressive trade exception cycling, the Thunder were able to create a $27.5M TPE for Adams.

They also convinced the Hawks to take in Gallinari in a sign-and-trade with just cash, allowing them to create a $19.5M TPE.

They’ll be big players in the trade deadline.
These TPEs allow the Thunder to stay over the cap while technically being under the salary cap. This allowed them to not only match salaries for Horford, but also retain the $27.5M TPE for a future trade.

The first they got from the Sixers now gives them three firsts in 2025.
The Thunder will have two firsts in 2021, both of which could very well be in the lottery, and three first-round picks in every draft between 2022 and 2026.

The asset collection should just about be done. Pretty soon, I believe the Thunder will consolidate some for a star.
Since the offseason began, the Thunder traded with 17 teams!

Lakers
Suns
Wizards
Celtics
Timberwolves + Knicks
Blazers and Grizzlies
Warriors
Bucks, Pelicans, + Nuggets
Hawks
Mavericks + Pistons
Pacers
Sixers

That’s more impressive than the amount of picks and TPEs they have.
I love when teams commit to a rebuild with pure asset accumulation like the Thunder did. They had the most entertaining offseason from a cap space perspective, IMO.

Manually keeping track of their TPEs was fun, I think I got about 80% right on the first try lol. A+
