But they are putting pressure on Arsenal and being cleverly adversarial in ways that are exposing things that are happening at the club. Results should matter https://twitter.com/mediocentr0/status/1338271731333599232
But as a Chelsea fan, who came on during their rise in the Abramovich era, my hope was we’d eventually transition to a point where we’d be much more like Bayern Munich than an English club in that we’d be able to have the level of success when the owners got bored.
Chelsea knowing that they were nothing pushed Abramovich to try to change things a lot. Certainly a more ordinary club without constantly course correcting.
But it is dependent on the owner and a single or primary owner group especially one who is far away and doesn’t have longer term social connection to the club is liable to get bored.
AFTV helped to keep the pressure on and still does. We laugh sometimes at the AFTV things, and I think the individual player signing demands some make don’t get to that point.
I think Arsenal need to be relegated and figure out how they are going to be. Big clubs do get relegated and have to undergo whatever changes they need to do in order to get back.
Sometimes they get lucky. But the culture change will come when there isn’t the easy money and when the American oligarch isn’t interested enough and the TV revenue isn’t there.
