I wasn't planning on doing it this way... but I must now confess that I am a white, middle-aged film nerd. Only thanks to fearless takes like this—which erase personal subjectivity in favor of a daring embrace of precisely why identity politics has a bad name—can I be myself.
I try not to get worked up about this stuff, but I'm imagining 16-year-old me, absolutely knocked sideways by Barton Fink, wanting to know more, and then seeing this shit, and wondering—because I'm not yet confident in my opinions—is he right? Is this for me?
This was never meant to be a thread—I'm sorry. But let's leave this useless, preening moral vanity in 2020, shall we? Let's attack matters of access, spectatorship and canon-challenging in productive, generous ways! Maybe donate to @JG_PACA? https://www.gofundme.com/f/jgpaca-fundraiser
