After weeks of bipartisan negotiations, my colleagues & I introduced two bills today: A $748B bill for emergency food, rent & business assistance, health care, education & broadband; and a $160B bill for state & local funding and liability protections.
The Bipartisan Emergency COVID Relief Act of 2020 provides immediate help for unemployed Americans, small businesses, & those facing hunger. As the holidays approach, we must pass this emergency relief to extend unemployment, student loan forbearance, and food assistance.
The Bipartisan State and Local Support and Small Business Protection Act of 2020 provides $160B to state, local & tribal governments on a need-based formula. It also offers liability protection for businesses, schools & healthcare facilities that follow safety standards.
These bills are truly a Christmas miracle, but it shouldn’t take a miracle for Congress to do its job. I urge my colleagues to pass these bills & to keep this bipartisan spirit going into the new year & beyond.
