45,0000 households in Portland are facing eviction come the end of the year. As it stands now, in Multnomah County, there is grace period I believe until June 30th to pay back rent. But come January, everyone is required to pay rent.
Okay, so, out of those 45,000 households, how many of those involve more than one person? 3, 4? How about a family? Because of our business needing to close in Vancouver as it was deemed non-essential, we fell behind on rent.
Now, I'm not going to disclose amount, but beyond the 1,000's for rent, add in using what income we have for other essentials, such as food, gas, electricity, heat, etc. all things that a normal household has to take care of. Throw in the schooling requirements for our kids.
It's irreparable, and that is really what I am getting at. In addition, I rent from a property management agency. I looked them up, they own places in 5 states. What are they doing, beyond preparing to spend thousands on court fees to evict people and force Houselessness
It really pisses me off that @tedwheeler, talks about not wanting to weaponize evictions, but 6 days ago, demonstrated he is willing to do just that, and blames it on MCSO, ironic, I saw PPB hit parked cars, ppb get chased out. I know, MCSO was present......
So, all you news organizations, all you press who want to highlight an issue that is a problem that needs to be addressed NOW, here's one. 650,000 people in Portland, 45,000 households facing eviction. Yellow Vest is on the horizon and I hope that Portland realizes that.
Last thing. I think long and maddeningly, when I think about how this is going to affect minorities and marginalized members of our community. Those who can't just pack up and move, like wheeler did. Tag a politician that needs to be aware of this.
