Last week I shared for the first time that I have ADHD.

I wrote about my experience with it as an adult and how I've been able to manage it (while still being hyper-productive).

Here's a summary of the blog post in a thread.
I have ADHD, a bit of OCD, and might be slightly dyslexic (I have not been diagnosed by a specialist, but my partner is a therapist and provided me with a few resources that indicated me to believe this).
What this looks/feels like:
- Very, very, very hard time focusing on things that I don’t like or want to do
- Hard time reading physical books (thank god for Audible)
Easily distracted by noise (hypersensitive to external sounds like birds, cars, construction, etc.)
What this looks/feels like:
- Sometimes having a hard time sitting still for extended periods of time
- Tough time getting into a flow state after being interrupted
- Trouble writing on paper (without the aid of spell check or Grammarly to correct minor exchanges of “i” and “e”)
I think I started to develop these when my dad passed away when I was 12. I remember leaning heavily into sports, student clubs & organizations to cope - all of which pacified me in the short term but actually helped me develop an arsenal of tools to deal with it in the longterm.
Here are some of the tools that I have learned to be most effective for me:

- Limit distractions (notifications all off, noise cancellation headphones, all tabs closed out except the one I'm using)
cont.
- Intentionally and deliberately working (minimize menial tasks, funnel energy, continuously feed my brain with audiobooks, podcasts, documentaries, and sticking to doing things that I enjoy doing a ton + also provide value)
cont.
- STRICT ROUTINES (this is my secret weapon) -- I mapped out a daily routine down to the minute and follow it as closely as possible. I also use batching techniques to focus on specific projects or similar work. Lastly, I calendar everything to hold me accountable.
Last one.

I have no idea if this is a placebo effect. But caffeine seems to really help. Especially when paired with a good DJ set (that has continuous music without breaks and noise-canceling headphones).
