The #VPD are terrible at their jobs. I just got put in handcuffs while buzzing into my house because I "matched a description". Fine, whatever.
The problem is their shitty attitude multiplied by their sheer incompetence. Now, I don’t know if straight to cuffs is common procedure but I didn’t resist. Again, fine. But they asked me 10 times if I had a knife. I said no each time, calmly.
Then this, “look buddy, this will go a lot easier if you just tell us where the knife is”. “I told you, I don’t have a knife”- visibly annoyed at this point. “Whoa, what’s with the attitude, do you know how hard our jobs are?” As he fumbles for 2 minutes to put the handcuffs on.
Lol ok. “I know that you act like a fucking gang and constantly harass poor people. I know that you don’t know how to de-escalate and you killed my partner’s best friend Myles. I know…”
“Whoa buddy calm down we just want to know where the knife is”. Nah bro, you wanted to justify your job to me and I’m the wrong guy. “I don’t have a knife”. But like, what if I did? It’s not illegal to carry a knife. Jesus. There are now 10 cops standing in front of me.
“If you don’t have a knife then what’s the problem?”, one of them says. The problem is this tough guy attitude. Puffing up their chests and glaring. Demanding over and over again that I tell them where the fictional knife is, then telling me how hard their job is.
“This is why we need to defund the VPD”. They all laugh. “Ok buddy, that’s why you vote”. “Actually BUDDY the council voted to defund you 1% and your unelected board refused”. They don’t find a knife and once again struggle to uncuff me. They all look very disappointed.
I sure hope they didn't cuff every ‘early 40s white guy wearing black’ in Gastown. If this is how they treat a guy wearing a $600 Opening Ceremonies jacket and brand new Nikes (don’t @ me) buzzing into his overpriced loft w/ coffee in hands, how do they treat BIPOC and and PWUD?
Like, so what did they think happened? I ran down the street waving a knife at someone, put it away, grabbed a coffee, checked my phone, played my turn in Polytopia and calmly walked across the street and buzzed into my building?

I feel so bad for everyone who has to deal with these fucking thugs. I'm so privileged that I can not only walk away and tweet about this, but verbally berate them the entire time they were doing it.
